SAP S/4HANA transformation
at a state bank

Project period: 10.2023 - 12.2025

The project:

As part of the SAP S/4HANA transformation, the existing SAP system landscape was fundamentally modernized. The aim was to migrate central SAP modules to SAP S/4HANA and move to the cloud as part of RISE with SAP. The previous SAP AFI and SAP ERP applications were migrated to modern HANA-based modules such as SAP FPSL using a greenfield approach. SAP FSDM, SAP Group Reporting, SAP FCL and SAP FOF were also introduced.

The transformation pursued the overarching goal of simplifying processes, improving data integration across departments and future-proofing the IT infrastructure. The project covered the areas of reporting, credit risk, internal and external accounting and IT system architecture. In addition to SAP, other software solutions were also introduced or updated.

The coordination of the numerous project participants and the management of technical dependencies between the applications posed a particular challenge.

Our approach:

Our contribution focussed on the conversion of the SAP ERP modules. We took on the migration and adaptation of client-specific programmes, reports and data fields in SAP GUI and Fiori. The interface customization to S/4HANA included coordination with the overarching process control via UC4. We also supported the customizing of the general ledger and asset accounting modules, including validations, substitutions, business workflows (SAP GUI) and flexible workflows (Fiori). Foreign currency valuation including MCA was also configured.

To support the finance department, we defined and updated balance sheet and P&L structures in the Fiori app "Manage global hierarchies". We used the SAP Migration Cockpit to migrate cost centres, G/L accounts, bank master data, assets, balances and open items. We designed, configured and successfully tested the corresponding migration projects. We also trained the finance specialists in the use of the Fiori apps for external accounting. All activities were documented in Confluence and Jira.

In test management, we coordinated the tests for the ERP modules. Test cases were uploaded to Jira, test executions planned and their processing and troubleshooting managed. We actively supported the finance department in defining test cases and carried out technical tests ourselves. We analyzed errors in overarching processes, particularly in the general ledger transfer from FPSL and other interfaces. We corrected the errors that occurred as part of the test cycles.
